Zircon is a naturally forming gemstone. Not the same as Cubic Zirconia. Zircon has a high brilliance and was once the primary substitute for diamond. Marketing of the synthetic cubic zirconia drove most natural zircon off the market and now is rarely found in jewelry.
Zircon has a rare quality called, double refraction, which creates an illusion of doubled shimmer inside the stone. When viewed from the front the shine of zircon can even surpass that of diamond.
